THE DEMON OF MIDDAY

The Demon of Midday tells the story of Fern, a young woman possessed by a dark demon that is slowly ripping away her soul piece by piece. Fern and her friends look for help, eventually finding a frightening witch called Baba Yaga, who agrees to help. But the cure is neither safe nor easy — and first Fern must prove her worth by fighting the demon alone.

Midday is a fantasy-adventure story, but also an allegory of depression and the difficulty of finding help — and accepting it. Based on the director’s own experience of depression, The Demon of Midday shows that illness should not be a source of shame: struggling is not weakness, but a sign of courage and resilience when facing an overwhelming opponent alone.

Midday is set in an almost-contemporary world where magic and supernatural beings exist, symbolising psychological elements such as personality types, aspirations and fears. The film combines elements of Eastern European folklore with a modern Western fantasy style. The storytelling uses horror, fast-paced adventure and drama, featuring a strong female lead and diverse characters.
