Production Design by Fýr Romu
I’m a multi-material master artisan and production designer based in Turku, working at the intersection of traditional craft and modern fabrication. My material palette spans wood, metal, plastics, leather, and stone — shaped through techniques from carving, forging, and metal casting to sewing, CNC machining, TIG welding, 3D modelling, and specialized processes such as explosive metal forming.
My work centers on building physical worlds for film, theatre, and live productions. I design and construct complete environments, functional stage structures, and story-critical props that withstand daily use while holding up under the unforgiving eye of the camera. Whether it’s a worn tool in an actor’s hand, a mechanical creature, or a full-scale set meant to be inhabited, everything is built to feel real, weighted, and alive.
Alongside set and prop work, I’ve created animatronics, practical effects, fire-based pieces, scale models, instruments, weapons, and custom objects, as well as traditional carpentry and restoration. I work both independently and within larger art department teams, translating sketches and technical drawings into physical reality under real production schedules — with a strong focus on safety, durability, and problem-solving on set.
